Baalika Ashram, Dadar

Last Saturday, we decided to visit an orphanage at Dadar called Baalika Asharam. We thought we'l give them toys and story books, but when we called and spoke to the concerned person out there, she told us , rite now wot they need is Notebooks and pencils. We immediately decided that we would give them what they actually need.

Me and a friend met on a weekday, went to the market and bought 50 notebooks, pencils , eraser, sharpners and rulers(scale). We made two chartpapers, where we wrote a small message "keep smiling" and drew our hand. We kept another chartpaper blank... we thought we would ask the kids to draw their hands with their names and keep it with us as a memory.

Then the day came, when we a group of 6 went to the asharam , we were surprised to find out tht Godrej company had booked the day for today , and they have a lot of activities planned for the kids. They were there since morning, We told the lady at the reception, that we had informed them well in advance that we would be coming and were told that saturday would we free for us. But the poor lady with no fault of her's (the girl with whom we spoke over the fone was missing and probably she might hav goofed up the dates)...told us that she couldn't do anything as Godrej people come there every month and this day is always booked for them. She invited us to look around the place but all we wanted was to spend time with kids. Somehow, we managed to speak to the head who was just passing by and requested him that even if we get half an hour we would be happy. HE promised to speak to the godrej guys and get back to us. Luckily for us...the godrej people agreed as the drawing competition tht they had arranged for the kids just got over ...

We were more than happy to be with kids... we even got to distribute the books (Thanks to the Head) to the kids who kept saying "thank you" with a big smile on their face. The Aaya (or the lady who handle's the kids out there) took out the poster which we were hiding ( cos we were feeling lil awkward with the godrej people around ) and showed it to the kids..The kids screamed "WOWWW" which we had not accepted.. So much love , such a warm welcome was sumthing we were not expecting. But the kids out there are lovelyyy...

I even spoke to 2-3 kids who wanted me to stay back and even offered to share their bunk bed with me . One of the girl's who won a "water bottle" in the competition just a few mins before.... kept flashing her prize wheneva I took a pic. I somehow managed to capture her face and very happily went to her and said "Dekho...aapka photo" ... and wot i get was "Mera photo nahi dekhna...mere water bottle ka dikhao na" ...lol damnn cute she was ;)

Another cutiee who i mistook as a boy ....a small kid with a boy cut flashing her smile all the time i looked at her and winked :P ..I later remembered that we were at the "BAALIKA" asharam which means there are only girls here (i'm such a dmumbo :P ) . I asked her name and she promptly replied "PREITY ZINTA" ...Surprised i asked her again "aapka naam beta...fav actress nahi" ..very cutely she said "Arre baba...PREITY ZINTA" lol ....I said, "preity zinta??? toh aapka dimples kaha hai dikhaao??" ...she smiled... I said " arre gaal pe toh nahi hai... aapke tiffin box me hoga...dikhaoo ..i opened her box.." she started laughingg..."nahi hai BABA", she said. I kissed her....and she acted like a shy baby... i pulled her cheeks and said "aap toh bohatt cute ho" .. she said " aap bhi" Lol

Later, the Aaya told me that her name is "preeti" but she calls herself Preity Zinta...!! and i thought why not?? she's no less than preityy zinta...:) The one hour that we got with the kids was fun ... what we took back with us was a lot of memories ..cute lil incidents while drawing their hands...when the kids kept telling "mera surname bhi likhna" .."mera blue color se banao" ..."mere finger pe JOLLY banao :P " . Truly the kids were lil angels who welcomed every person with an open arm...all they want is someone to love them , spend time with them. When they realised we were leaving 2 of them frowned and said "katti" awww we dint feel like going :( ...

But we had to ...We left with a promise "that we would be back very soon." A day with the kids was the besttt day of my life till date...the only regret we have is , we cudnt get much time with them. Hopefully next time :) ....We have to keep our promise. Dont we?

Helping Handzz - A beginning

Who we?

We call ourselves The "Helping Handzz." No we are not an NGO or do not belong to any of those social organisations. We are just a group 5 friends reaching out to kids at the orphanages/Ngo's etc to give what they need the most just to see them smile when they recieve it.

What?

We chip in money from our pockets....and buy toys...or clothes or accessories.... or Stationery or woteva is their requirement. We also collect some of them from other people but till now we havent met many enthu people who are willing to donate clothes or toys. Hoping to get more and more people donate stuff for us.

Why?

We dont do it for acknowledgement nor do we do it to show off....We do it cos we believe in spreading the love ..We do it cos we love doing it...We do it cos we love to see them smile.

So that's what we do....what every other Ngo does.... But wot matters is we DO... Unlike many others who want to do it but dont get the time ....or Dont know how to go about doing it.

This blog is all about our journey. A collection of memories that we might cherish for years to come. :)

Kudos to our gang.
