Anmol & Vatsalya

Like we had decided, it was time for us to visit an orphanage this month too. This time we had bought toys for the kids....We had googled about this asharam called "vatsalya" which has two branches across mumbai. We were told there are 46 girls and a senior citizens section too. We went around shopping for toys ( dolls, kitchen sets, badminton, hockey set, table tennis set, ludo, snakes & ladder, puzzle, and lot of other board games) , we even bought hairbands and earrings for the girls.

While on our way to Sanpada, we suddenly rem about this other orphanage i had read about which was situated in Airoli called "anmol" , we coudnt get the number of this place but we had the add, so we thought we might just go and check out the place , so tht we cud go there next time with toys. We took 2 big packets of choclates(as we dint wanna go empty hand) , we were greeted by this lady called sujata , she told us about asharam and made us talk to the head sister(who was not present there ) . When we went the kids were having their lunch, we waited for them.

One by one the girls came out, in total there were 18 girls aged between 5-16. The youngest one was named Sharmila(true to her name she was a real shy girl with a cuteee smile) . We made the girls write their name on the chart paper that we had taken. All the lil one's wrote their names in hindi ...while the bigger one's wrote in english. One girl took 15 mins to write her name...she wrote "KA" ...then stopped.....then wrote MA and then stopped... looked here n there... waited for sumtime and then wrote "Na" :P....i said "Kaamna?" She said "nahiiii" ....i was confused... the elder one behind her took the pen from her hand and said "aare aapka naam thik se likhna seekho, firse wrong likha aapne" ....and she wrote "Kaamini" ....lol

The one thing that impressed me was..when u ask any of these kids their names...they would very confidently say "Pooja Anmol"....."Jennifer Anmol" ...."Poonam Anmol" ...."Kalpana anmol" .......For them their asharam's name is their Surname. Isnt tht cute? Truly these kids are Anmol...Priceless..!!!

We then distributed the choclates... the kids were really happy to recieve them...they even invited us for the diwali party next week... We promised them that we will definitely come and see their dance performance..."Didi hum punjbaai gaane pe dance karenge..aap aao haan" ... :)

From there we went to Vatsalya..our actual destination. We were greeted by 5-6 senior citizens....The one's who handle the place. Out of them one uncle was the most enthu of the lot...he looked at me and said "wens ur bday?"...I replied....He said "how do u celebrate it?" ....I said "with frds or family" ...He asked," Do u buy a new dress?" ...I said "yes" ...then i want your old dress... I dint understnd... i just looked at him ..all confused... He said "when u buy a new dress, i just want u to pass me ur old dress.... i have 43 girls and they need clothes too...but they dont need new one...they are happy if they get a old one too" ....I was touched...This got me thinking....i was silent for sumtime....I promised him tht i'l give all my old clothes the next time i come and so did my frds..

We were then asked to go to the 2nd floor where the kids were watching TV. The kids came out to greet us..and everyone started telling their names.... We then started giving the gifts we had bought for them...the lil ones were really happy to get Dolls and kitchen sets....and bigger one's were more than happy with the badminton....and board games...everyone started showing their gifts to others...Then we gave the bigger girls earrings...and the lil one's cutee kiddie hairbands.....Wot we got was a big "WOWWW" ...the bigger one's were more excited to see the kiddie hairbands... :P ...i saw one of the girl asking the lil one to give her the hairband for one min just so tht she cud try... the lil one very happily gave her hairband and said "Pehno didi, aapko jab chahiye tab pehen lena" ...(awwwww tht was soo sweet) the girl then wore the hairband looked in the mirror and gave it bck to the lil one "Tu pehen chhoti...merepe achhi nahi lag rahi..terepe zyaada achhi lag rahi thi" ........( These kids teach u a lot of lil things)...We even met the senior citizens..(sum of them who were thrown out of their house by their son....and their daughter-in-law(losers ..)..THe others were sleeping so we dint disturb them. But they were so happy to just see visitors coming to meet them...all they wanted was us the sit with them for sumtime and talk....they were not ready to let us go...they kept saying "when will u come bck?? " .....:)

Despite of all tht had happened in their life...they are happy being with fellow members who have gone thru the same thing...showering their love on these kids who long to have a family .... Together all of them are happy being in their own little world without the outside world bothering them....

We had an amazing day watching these lil kidss smile ....their happiness when they got the gifts was clearly visible on their faces...That made us feel tht all the shoppinggg and all the efforts tht we took for the last 15-20 days by running here n there for the toyss......was worth it.... !!!!

Hoping to make them smile again...!!
